With seven different fish tanks on prominent display, containing everything from lobster and crab to hammour and oysters, the Blues looks like a restaurant that takes its seafood very seriously indeed. The dining experience here though, is surprisingly fun.
Soon after you sit down you are ushered up to the ice bar, where a selection of fresh fish, all caught that day, await your attention. On the day of our visit, we chose from Red Snapper, Pomfret, Sea Bream and Hammour.
Once you’ve chosen your fish (we picked a fresh-looking Red Snapper), you can decide to have it steamed, sauteed, grilled or fried. Depending on your choice, there are a range of different sauces. The well-trained waiters can help you make the right decision – this is no Mongolian BBQ where half of your ‘creations’ turn out inedible.
Our Red Snapper was steamed with Ginger, Spring Onion, Coriander and Soy sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly, with a creamy texture that melted in our mouths. The sauce was tasty, although we would have preferred a little more soy.
As good as the fish is, its not the only reason to come to The Blues. Out of the starters, the Wasabi Mayonnaise Prawns caught our eye, and they didn’t disappoint. The prawns are briefly deep fried, leaving them slightly crunchy, then brushed liberally with a delicious, tangy mayonnaise.
Service at The Blues was attentive and prompt throughout. The restaurant is very well lit and doesn’t have a huge amount of atmosphere, but its great for lunch or a casual dinner. You can also do a little people-watching from a table on the terrace.
Overall, The Blues serves some great seafood, and the availability of so many options for your meal are bound to provide some interesting talking points through dinner.
