This South African steakhouse chain has a decent selection of steaks, and lots of different burger options. Its got a great lunch menu for any Western expats missing home – choose from fish and chips, sausage and mash, or steak pie.

Frankie’s

A joint effort between Frankie Dettori and Marco Pierre White, Frankie’s is one part Italian, one part Steakhouse. Walls lined with pictures of the eponymous jockey next to (invariably much taller) celebrities add to the relaxed atmosphere. It was impossible to get a reservation when it launched, but its much easier now. They also offer a discounted ‘early dining’ menu from time to time.

Asado

Sitting just underneath The Palace hotel, Asado is a genuine Argentian grill with great food and lots of character. Like a South American temple to meat-eating, its full of features like antler chandeliers, leather chairs, brick walls and an open kitchen with lots of good quality meat on display.

Arrive a little early for a drink in the cozy wine bar at one end of the restaurant, and enjoy the live South American band during your meal.
