From the moment you walk into the Belgium Beer Café, located in the Crowne Plaza Festival City, this expat favourite feels like a little piece of Europe transplanted into Dubai. Full of dim lighting, dark wood and lots of character, its one of the most comfortable spots in Dubai to enjoy dinner and a drink with friends.

A large selection of Belgian beers take prime place on the menu – take your pick from cherry beers, peach beers, 5% beers, 11.5% beers and more, all lovingly brought to the table in the correct glasses by the knowledgeable waiters. If you’re feeling less adventurous, they also have some more familiar names like Stella Artois and Hoegaarden.

What better to go with your beer than a mussel pot and some Belgian fries? The mussels come in a huge pot, big enough for two share, and drenched in one of three sauces. We tried the Thai curry sauce, which was spiced to perfection and just creamy enough. Other options were the Provencale (garlic, onions and tomato) and the Mariniere (celery, onions and herbs). The menu also features some delicious looking steaks and seafood.

Some thought has gone into the appearance of the food, which comes to the table innovatively presented. The bread selection is delivered wrapped in a simple brown paper bag, while the Belgian fries arrive in a paper cone with a generous dollop of creamy mayonnaise on the side.

Belgium Beer Café is especially popular for brunch and sunset drinks, as a seat outside on the terrace offers fantastic views of the city. If you sit inside then try to get one of the tables on the second level, with the views through the large windows.
