Fashion Lounge

From ChowDubai.com:A restaurant with such an ambitious name needs to make a good first impression – unfortunately Fashion Lounge left us feeling like we’d turned up to see a Marc Jacobs catwalk show and been ushered into Marks & Spencer instead.
Located at the back of the Amwaj block of JBR, Fashion Lounge probably doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic but is fairly popular with trendy JBR-ites. A confusing mix of styles, textures and colours is meant to give the decor a vintage, eclectic look, but it lacks the warmth and intimacy to which it aspires.
Service is friendly, attentive and probably the best thing about Fashion Lounge. When we ordered the Tuna Nicoise, we were told they had no fresh lettuce, but would rather serve us another dish than give us the old leaves. We didn’t know whether to be annoyed at our choice being off the menu, or thankful that they didn’t let their standards drop as other restaurants might have done.
The mains took some time to arrive, but we were served some amuse-bouche to keep us entertained. A pleasant selection of Feta Cheese (excellent), Smoked Salmon (ditto) and a slice of cucumber with olive and anchovy (hmm..) kept the tastebuds engaged.
Our first choice of main, the Mini Burgers came with ultra thin fries arranged neatly in a potato jacket. Presentation aside though, the miniaturisation process appeared to have affected the meat much more than the buns, resulting in mini burgers that were more like bread rolls. They were tasty, but would have benefitted from a more generous portion of meat.
Next up was the Parcel of Seasonal Vegetables, definitely a dish to attract the calorie counting fashion crowd. The vegetables were nicely cooked but the dish as a whole was lacking a little in inspiration, and had what appeared to be a lagoon of tomato sauce in the centre of the plate.
Fashion Lounge is certainly not expensive – our two mains and a couple of soft drinks came in at just over 100 Dhs – but we probably won’t be heading back until they give the food a proper ‘makeover’.

On my visit to the fashion lounge I found the decor to be very trendy and chic, though the atmosphere of the resteraunt was a bit stale.
Service was very friendly and attentive, though the meals did take a while to come out.
For the food, I ordered the duck, though nicely presented and flavoured, it was quite over cooked.
I also think that a restaurant of this design and concept would only work if it was licensed. The truly fashionable would surely like a glass of wine or champagne with their meal. The waiter informed that they would be able to be licensed with the Rotana Hotel opening, so we will have to see.
